Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, Luan Prabang nestles in the mountains at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan Rivers. This former royal capital is one of the most delightful towns in Asia and the focus of this 5-day tour, which also includes an orientation tour of Vientiane.

Small enough to explore on foot, the town reveals its charm and history at every turn, with gilded temples on every corner and saffron-robed monks strolling quiet streets. The local markets, where Hmong tribeswomen come to shop, offer fascinating produce, as well as silver and textiles.

Luang Prabang from vientiane by air

(Itinerary 5Days 4 Nights)

Day 1: Arrival Vientiane (Meals: N/A)
You will be met upon arrival at Vientiane Wattay International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Once you’ve settled in and eaten lunch (own expense), set out on a small-group sightseeing tour of the fascinating Laos capital with your guide in the afternoon. Stroll alongside the mighty Mekong River past faded French colonial mansions and tree-lined boulevards in the older part of Vientiane, and experience the city’s outstanding Buddhist temples. Admire nearly 7,000 Buddha images at Wat Si Saket, situated in a tranquil spot near the city center. Built in 1818, it’s the oldest temple still standing in Vientiane and features an ornate five-tiered roof. Next, visit Wat Haw Phra Kaew, the former royal temple of the Lao monarchy that housed the Emerald Buddha before it was taken to Bangkok’s Grand Palace. Walk through the lush temple grounds to the indoor gallery that showcases 18th-century bronze Buddha statues. Ask your guide about the Buddhist devotees who wrap fabric around the statues and affix gold foil to the faces. Learn more about the importance of Buddhism in Lao culture at Pha That Luang (Great Sacred Stupa), considered a symbol of Lao sovereignty and the most important national monument. Spend your evening at your leisure; relax with a Lao foot massage at a nearby spa or head to one of the restaurants within easy walking distance of your hotel.

Continue to the Palace Museum to see an eclectic collection of statues, mosaic-covered walls, French mirrors, and a piece of moon rock given to the people of Laos by President Nixon.
In the late afternoon, head to the top of Mt. Phousi for panoramic views of the city and surrounding hills. The mountain is dotted with small shrines and monasteries, and a perfect spot to watch the sun set over the golden spires of the wats.
